Soon after arriving in Missouri as an immigrant, I was introduced to The Locke & Smith Foundation’s Legislative Review Committee and welcomed along to join them in reviewing legislation. I was completely unaware of the way the United States political system was setup and oblivious to the fact that each state even has it’s own Constitution (as this is far from the political system I was born and raised in).
It did not take long before I was able to actively participate, due to the positive and welcoming environment, in researching legislation and raising constitutional objections therein with the group.
This is not my first time being a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States, however it is my first time in having such an opportunity to actually learn how the political system operates and why it is so important for the general public to understand not only the US Constitution, but the Constitutions of the state in which they reside.
I think that The Locke & Smith Foundation has a respectable approach to educating the public on how important it is for the Government to follow the guidelines set forth in the founding documents of the Nation and each State.
